2017 Women in STEM Teen Conference

The Second Annual Women in STEM Teen Conference will be held April 1, 2017 at the Alabama School of Math and Science in Mobile, Ala. Students currently in the 6-12 grades can attend for free.

“More than 300 students and parents from around the state attended last year, and the program received wonderful reviews,” ASMS President Dr. Monica Motley says. “I am very excited to announce that we have added new components to this year’s event for those interested in returning.”

ASMS will introduce middle and high-school aged girls to a wide breadth of careers available in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). Students will participate in a variety of hands-on STEM activities to include Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Rocketry, Computer Science, Mathematics, Robotics, and much more. Prominent female scientists, engineers, and doctors from around the region will also be featured in a career expo.

A new parent component has been added to this year’s event.

“During the hands-on activities for the students, we will feature a new program specifically for parents,” says Katrina Thompson, a personal and academic counselor at ASMS. “We have invited professionals from around the community to provide tools for parents to help motivate their girls academically and socially.”
