Degussa Corporation to fund ASMS Chemistry Laboratory
Degussa Corporation, a global leader in specialty chemicals, is donating
$100,000 to fund a science education laboratory at the Alabama School of
Mathematics and Science.
Degussa said its contribution is part of the companyıs ongoing efforts
to help improve education.
"Education is essential for any business, and particularly to a
science-oriented company such as Degussa," said John Salvatore, President of
Degussa Corporation. "As a company, we want to help further develop some of
the best scientific minds of the next generation."
Salvatore said Degussaıs donation will be provided in annual $20,000
increments over the next five years.
The new ASMS facility will be named the Degussa Chemistry Laboratory.
ASMS President/Director Dr. Jane Ellis praised Degussa for its
contribution. "We thank Degussa for its generous contribution," said Dr.
Ellis. "We can only hope other corporations follow the lead of Degussa and
help enrich our most precious assets - our students."
Degussa's donation to the Alabama School of Mathematics and Science is
an investment in the community's and the company's future, said Tom
Bates, Vice President and Site Manager of Degussa's Mobile operations.
"Degussa creates essentials and nothing is more essential than the
education of our young people," said Bates. "We consider it an important
part of our social responsibility and corporate citizenship to be a part of
local communities in a meaningful way. Degussa continually seeks ways to
involve ourselves in helping deserving students further their education."
The donation for the Degussa Chemistry Laboratory was made during a
March 7 ceremony.
