Lawrence N. Hyland is a native Mobilian. Following graduation from the University of South Alabama in 1969 with degrees in History and Secondary Educaton, he was commissioned in the United States Air Force and spent over 22 years on active duty. He retired in 1992 as a Lieutenant Colonel.
Larry's military resume' reveals combat tours in Vietnam, management positions at unit and headquarters level, and command experience. He is a graduate of numerous intermediate and senior-level military schools to include the Air Command and Staff College resident program. Awards and honors include the Howard E. Curtis Award for the Outstanding Graduate Student, University of South Alabama, 1996; the Colonial Dames Award for Outstanding Paper in Colonial American History, 1995; and Phi Kappa Phi Honors Society, 1996. He holds an Alabama Teacher's Certificate in Biology and Social Studies. Larry is an adjunct professor of History at the University of South Alabama and has developed courses in Modern Western Civilization, Colonial American History, and Post-Reconstruction American History. He joined th staff at the Alabama School of Math and Scienc in December 2002. |
