National German Exam
Among the about 25,000 students who participate in the NGE each year, ASMS students have usually scored at or above the 85 percentile nationally and placed among rank 1-5 in Alabama on each of the three levels. Every single year so far, at least one of our students places first in Alabama and 99th percentile nationally.
The national organization sponsoring this exam comments that “the high end of the test is very difficult, demanding extremely consistent performance across a wide range of language, only the top third of all participating students score between 85 and 100. Add to this that German frequently is a college preparatory subject not known for its simplicity”.
National certificates, individual prizes, scholarship offers and all expense paid travel opportunities, internships and home-stays have resulted from good rankings on this exam.
Outstanding Senior Award
As a professional member of the national German Teachers’ organization, your teacher can nominate one non-native German student per year for this nationally publicized award. Further requirements are an A average in German classes, a B average overall, 3yrs of German or the equivalent thereof (6 semesters), and proven additional exceptional commitment.
Outstanding Sophomores and Juniors
are recognized by the Department at ASMS annually for academic excellence and great promise.
Concentration in Languages
attests to superior performance and exceptional commitment in one of several possible areas of focus.
