Field Experience

·         Self-Employed Biologist (1990-present)

I have carried out numerous projects relating to the vegetation, and other special species of Mississippi and other southeastern states. At various times I have performed work for the U.S. Forest Service, the U.S. Army, the U.S. Park Service, the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks, the U.S. Air Force, and the Nature Conservancy.

·         Research Assistant (1986)

Participated in a study of the effects of fire on longleaf pine in a Louisiana state wildlife area.

·         Protection Planner (1980-1981)
Mississippi Natural Heritage Program, Museum of Natural Science, Jackson, MS

Developed procedures to implement the Mississippi Natural Heritage Act of 1978, for the selection, protection, and management of State Natural Areas. Conducted a survey of state natural area programs. Determined land ownership of selected natural areas and produced plans and recommendations for protection. Maintained and expanded Managed Area Files.
