Birds and Birdwatching

This course combines a survey of avian physiology, anatomy, behavior, conservation, evolution, and ecology with a laboratory which concentrates on enjoyment of birds through birdwatching.

April in Mobile is the height of spring migration, when Dauphin Island and other coastal areas play host to millions of neotropical migratory songbirds on their way north from Central America. This means that a beginner can have a rewarding experience very quickly...seeing dozens of new species a day. In past years, the course list has reached over 130 species in one ten-week term.
