Birdwatching along the Northern Gulf Coast

This special project will study the birds and natural landscapes of the northern Gulf Coast from the Florida Panhandle to southern Louisiana. Along the way we will sample the extraordinary and diverse human cultures of the area.

The northern Gulf Coast is one of the most important conservation areas in the United States, and affords incomparable opportunities to see a large variety of birds, mammals, and natural habitats on a relatively short and inexpensive trip. Students will be offered a chance to view a variety of beautiful natural areas and will be given a solid initiation in the basics of a potential lifetime interest in birds In general, we will be visiting sites on the Alabama Coastal Birding Trail, but will also visit many sites in Mississippi and some in peninsular Florida and southern Louisiana.
