Are ASMS students allowed to have cars on campus?
Yes. Students are allowed to have cars on campus, but may only use their cars going to and from home. Sophomores cannot have cars on campus until their junior year, and juniors may not bring a car until the beginning of Winter quarter.
Do students have a curfew during school?
Yes. Students must check in at their residence halls by 9:45 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and by midnight on Friday and Saturday. In-room times are 11:30 p.m. on schoolnights and 1:00 a.m. on weekends.
Is there security on the ASMS campus?
Yes. ASMS has a professionally trained security guard on duty from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. seven days a week. The security guard makes rounds of the campus while on duty and is ready to assist students during emergency situations.
What are the residence hall accomodations like?
Each room has two students. Rooms are furnished with a twin bed, night stand, dresser, chair, desk and lamp for each student. Residence halls have community bathrooms on each floor. There are small, built-in compartments in each bathroom to store toiletries. Also, there are common areas/lounges with microwaves and televisions in both the girls' and boys' residence halls.
Do ASMS students have telephones in their rooms? E-mail accounts?
Yes. Local phone service and voice mail are provided to each student. The cost of these services is included in fees. Students are responsible for their own long-distance service. Students have edline e-mail accounts, but internet is provided in dorm rooms for a fee. Access to the internet is also available in the computer labs.
Are laundry facilities available for student use?
Yes. Laundry facilities are located in the Administration Building. Laundry costs are $.75 per wash and $.50 per drying cycle.
Do students have required study hours?
No, although 7p.m. through 7a.m. are "quiet hours" in dorms on school nights. Students are encouraged to use this time to study. Also, students who fail two or more classes in a term are required to attend study hall.
Is smoking allowed on campus?
No. ASMS is a smoke-free campus. Use or possession of tobacco in any form is prohibited.
Do ASMS students have to follow a dress code?
Yes. Students may wear casual, comfortable clothes with the exception of tube tops, halter tops, t-shirts advertising drugs, alcohol or tobacco products and t-shirts with offensive captions or designs. Occasionally, students will be required to dress more formally when special guests are on campus or when special events are held. Students are expected to represent ASMS well through their dress.
Are students allowed to work during the school year?
Students are not allowed to work off-campus while in residence at ASMS. However, each student is expected to perform three hours of work service per week for the school.
Do ASMS students have opportunities for scholarships?
Yes! In Last year's academic class, ASMS students earned more than $14 million in merit-based scholarships from colleges and universities across the United States.
Are ASMS students allowed to go home on the weekends?
Yes. Students may check out to go home on most weekends. There are approximately four weekends when students must remain on campus for special events.
Are ASMS students allowed to attend church services in the Mobile area?
Yes. Churches in the area have responded enthusiastically to ASMS students. During Fall Orientation, there is an opportunity for students to meet with members of several local churches, and some churches provide van runs to and from services.
Where do ASMS students eat?
There is a cafeteria in the administration building which serves three meals a day, seven days a week.
How do ASMS students get around Mobile?
By foot and by van. Walgreens, Rite Aid, Krispy Kreme, and Winn Dixie are all within walking distance. Also, van runs go to the mall, the movies, Wal-Mart, and the University of South Alabama Libary, to name a few places.
