DIVERSITY at ASMS

The students of the Alabama School of Mathematics and Science exemplify diverse ethnic backgrounds. Currently the school’s student community’s major population consists of Euro-Americans (61.7%), African-Americans (25.9%), Asians (6.9%), Hispanics (1.8%), Bi-racial (1.1%), Native Americans (.7%), and others (1.8%). As indicated by the U.S. Census Bureau, Alabama is becoming more ethnically diverse as is the rest of the United States.

The Alabama School of Mathematics and Science is comprised of a multifaceted body of directors, office staff, maintenance and security personnel, residential personnel, and faculty. The percentage of males and females and ethnic groups in both the student body and the employees of The Alabama School of Mathematics and Science is a mirror of the proportions of the same groups in the State of Alabama.
