ASMS Students and Parents,

The ASMS campus will open at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, Sept 3. A “Monday schedule” will be instituted when classes resume on Tuesday, Sept. 4. Students who plan to return to campus by bus should reserve a spot by calling Joyce Boatman at 251-441-2130 or by emailing her at jboatman@asms.net. If a student rode the bus home, that student automatically has a spot reserved for the return ride. The return bus will follow this schedule:

Pick up Cullman (exit 304) Jack’s Restaurant Truck Stop) at 10:00 a.m.
Pick up Pelham (exit 246) BP/KFC Station Cahaba Valley Rd.) at 11:15 a.m.

Storm Update

2:30 p.m., Sunday, August 26, 2012

ASMS Parents and Students,

Due to the uncertain threat of Tropical Storm Isaac, ASMS will close school during the week of Aug. 27. A bus has been chartered to leave campus at 9:00 a.m. Monday morning to make stops in Montgomery, Pelham, Cullman, and Athens. Students will not be charged for this service. Additionally, students who do not plan to ride the charter bus should leave campus before 9:00 a.m. Monday morning.

ASMS plans to resume school on Tue., Sept. 4 and students should return to campus on the evening of Sept. 3. Because students will be missing a week of instruction, this valuable time will be made up at some point during the quarter.

Please call the ASMS reception desk at 251-441-2100 for further questions.

Storm Information

From ASMS President Dr. Larry Turner:

Thursday, August 23, 2012
4:00 p.m.

ASMS Community Members,

As you are probably aware, Tropical Storm Isaac is churning across the Caribbean Sea at this time. According to the National Weather Service, Isaac will become a hurricane and enter the Gulf of Mexico sometime Sunday morning. Current tracking models project Isaac will make final landfall somewhere between Apalachicola, Florida westward to the Louisiana coastline. Keep in mind that these projections are certainly subject to change between now and next week when the storm could even possibly reach our area.

Particularly, we wanted students and parents to know that we at ASMS are keeping a watchful eye on the storm and will be consulting with weather experts including the National Weather Service. We will not be able to make a definite decision about possibly closing our campus and sending everyone home until later in the weekend. Obviously, we will always lean toward making the maximum “safe” decision with the best information that we have available.

One suggestion is that if you are planning to go home this weekend, before returning on Sunday afternoon, check the ASMS website, Facebook, etc. or call the school (251-441-2100), to check on any decision made up to that point.

Thank you for your understanding in this matter and expect updates as more information comes available to us.

Sincerely,

Larry V. Turner, Ed.D
President

Manatee Sighting

Biology instructor Barry McPhail took a class on an impromptu field trip to see manatees that have migrated into the warm waters of the Mobile Delta. Although the photographs do not clearly show the manatees, our students did get a good view. Photographs by junior Raven Johnson.
