As Residential Life Coordinator I wear a lot of different hats. I am in charge of making sure that all the residential life staff has the training and education needed to handle every situation. At the same time I manage them and make sure everything is running smoothly.
I report directly to the Director of Students Affairs. We work together with any situation having to do with the staff or the dorms. My office hours are in the evening from 3:00m until 11:00pm.
I also act as the clearing house for discipline. This means I receive all the information about discipline and make decision on how cases are going to be handled. I only deal with minor violations and work together with my staff and the Honor Council to ensure consistency. If there is an intermediate or major violation I refer it to the Dean of Students.
What I have learned working in the Student Affairs department is that you need to be flexible. More than once my To-do-list has sat on my desk and laughed at me. If there is an emergency or a new situation that has arisen from the night before I will be the first one there to help.
Before accepting my current position I was a Hall Advisor and lived in the dorm for two and a half years. I really enjoyed living in the dorm and organizing activities for my floor.
Personal Note
I am currently pursuing my Master’s Degree in Instructional Design and Development from the University of South Alabama. I enjoy traveling and spending time away during our school breaks. I have lived in 6 different countries where I attended some type of schooling. Also I have traveled extensively throughout Europe and South America.
Before accepting a position at ASMS I was living in Budapest, Hungary working for a non-profit organization promoting cultural understanding.
