On the Results of the Enclosure Movement

Abstract
In my project, On the Results of the Enclosure Movement, I used the correlation
coefficient equation to determine whether or not the upsurge of crime in London
between 1534 and 1538 was due, in fact, to the Enclosure Act of 1534. I took the
census reports from 1530, 1534, and 1538 of London and Warwickshire and plugged
the data into the correlation coefficient to see if one had an effect on the other. The
first set of data that I put in was the population of London as opposed to the population
of rural Warwickshire. They were highly correlated by an inverse relation. The second
set of data that I plugged in to the correlation coefficient was the population of London
as opposed to the number of arrests. These numbers were also highly correlated. This
means that as the population of London grew, so did the number of crimes committed
there. So, the upsurge of crime was indirectly caused by the Enclosure Movement.
