Abstract
How abundant are different types of rocks under
certain conditions and how will changing these
conditions alter the abundance of the different types of
rocks? My project hopes to provide information on the
rock cycle that could be used in the future to help
describe the rock cycle on mars.
I attempted to solve my problem by using a STELLA
equation, which I converted into a JavaScript model. By
experimenting with the initial conditions in the
JavaScript model, I decided that the smallest change to
these initial conditions would affect the entire cycle.
Based on my original initial conditions (which are
listed in the paper), igneous rocks were the most
abundant, followed by metamorphic rock then sedimentary
rock. When I changed the original initial conditions,
this order of abundance remained the same; however, the
degree to which one type of rock was more abundant than
another type of rock changed. The ratio of the amount
of a certain type of rock to the materials from which
that type of rock was formed also changed.
