Meet Your Teachers

Jenny Arras, M.A., teaches Spanish and English at ASMS. She was born in Mexico and enjoys traveling.

Derek Barry, M.A., is a former Captain in the U.S. Army, where he served as a Tank Platoon Leader in Operation Desert Storm and was awarded the Bronze Star. He is a big fan of classic Rock and Roll. He teaches in the History Department.

Sarah G. Brewer, B.F.A., M.S., teaches Mathematics at ASMS. Her background in art drew her into Mathematics via visually-solved problems in knot theory and geometry.

Kevin Dolbeare, M.S., teaches Biology and Chemistry at ASMS. He is the ASMS chess coach and enjoys developing new classes. Mr. Dolbeare has tutored dozens of students for standardized tests.

Kristine Dolbeare, Ph.D., teaches organic chemistry at the University of South Alabama. She is an avid reader and enjoys sharing her love of science.

Doris Frye, M.A., teaches English at the University of South Alabama and has previously taught at Louisiana State University. She researches musicals, the theatre, and the Victorian era.

Mitch Frye, Ph.D., teaches English at ASMS. He has taught college-level composition and literature courses for nearly ten years, and he has published essays on F. Scott Fitzgerald, Batman, and Dracula.

Orren Kickliter, M.F.A., teaches art at ASMS and manages the ASMS Gallery.

Angel King teaches Pre-AP English 10 at Central High School in Tuscaloosa and is the Executive Director of the Higher Achievement Summer School, a college-prep enrichment program for students in the Black Belt. She is the Youth in Government sponsor at Central and enjoys exploring and debating important social issues with her students as they prepare to participate for the annual Youth in Government conferences.

Keith Lynn, B.S., M.S., is the Systems Administrator for the USA School of Computing as well as teaching Advanced C++ programming part-time.

Barry McPhail, M.N.S., is a botanist, birdwatcher, and outdoorsman, and has led hundreds of field trips to study the natural environment of southern Alabama. He teaches Biology at ASMS.

Monica Motley, Ph.D., is Director of Student Services at ASMS.

Glen M. Mutchnick, P.E., M.Ed., has taught Middle School, High School, and at the University/College level for approximately 20 years. He is a Mechanical Engineer, Licensed Professional Engineer and an Educator. He is currently Chair of the Science Department at Clark-Shaw School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology.

James Njengere, Ph.D., is a native of Kenya and has taught advanced-level sciences for more than 20 years. He teaches Biology at ASMS.

Natalya Prokhorova, M.Sc., teaches various Calculus classes, Linear Algebra, and Number Theory. She coaches the Math Team.

Don Wheeler, Ph.D., teaches Physics at ASMS and sponsors the FIRST Robotics Team. He has received several collaborative research grants from the National Science Foundation, as well as the Toyota Tapestry, and Lemelson-MIT grants.
