Michelin North America presented a check for $100,000 to ASMS for
renovations to the library and student activity center."Michelin has been very generous," says ASMS President/Director Dr.Jane Ellis. "Their donation speaks to the fact that we offer an exceptional
educational program."
ASMS will receive the donation in four payment installments of $25,000
that will be spread over a four-year period. The first payment was made in
early January.
"We are happy to donate this money to a school with such a solid
reputation," says John Tully, Michelin Director of Community Relations.
"The future leaders and engineers at Michelin need to have a top-notch
educational background, and I am sure that this funding to ASMS will help
this happen."
Along with Tully, other top Michelin executives were on hand, including
Opelika Plant Manager Fred Blackwell, Tuscaloosa Plant Manager Bill Green,
Dothan Plant Manager Gary Rheingans, and Tuscaloosa Plant Manager Michael
Card.
This funding comes at a particularly important time for ASMS, as ground
breaking is scheduled to begin soon on the library and student center
renovations.
"When industry partners with a school it demonstrates how valuable they
believe the youth are to the future," ASMS Librarian Angela Mollise says.
"Students will have improved study conditions, more computers and research
materials, and a multi-media classroom providing instructors and students
with the latest technology for learning."
