ASMS Family Day and Alumni Homecoming

By September 14, 2018 One Comment

ASMS Family Day will be held Saturday, October 13 and include several events for faculty, staff, students, parents, and alumni to come together as one united family. Spirit Week and Geekfest will lead up to Family Day, which has been combined with Alumni Homecoming and last year’s  “Parent’s Day.”

Improved communication is a school administration priority for the year and Family Day will be a way for ASMS community members to get to know one another in an informal atmosphere, which should foster open communication. The ASMS community will also meet new Development Director Dr. Samantha Church.

“I am so glad we have revamped Parent’s Day and coupled it with an alumni homecoming and a throwback Geekfest,” says ASMS Interim President Dr. John Hoyle. “I’m also happy Dr. Church will be meeting our parents and alumni.”

Previously, Parent’s Day was an event of it’s own and designed for parents to be able to meet and talk with faculty about classes.

“The ASMS faculty and staff have been strategically planning for our future, while also reexamining many current processes and procedures so that smart innovations can be made,” Hoyle says. “We solicited feedback from current ASMS families about Parent’s Day and, frankly, it wasn’t good – ‘no incentive to go,’ ‘no real interaction with teachers and staff,’ ‘it’s stuffy,’ and ‘no college counseling time.’”

ASMS listened to the concerns of parents, which resulted in the formation of a team of staff and parents who revamped Parent’s Day.

“ASMS Family Day will better serve community needs in a casual and inclusive environment in which families will get face time with hall staff, instructors, and administrators,” says ASMS Academic and College Counselor Julie Hoffmeyer, who has been instrumental in organizing ASMS Family Day. “Additionally, alumni will be on campus that day and can interact with families in various ways. Family Day will end with a community cookout and a retro-themed Geekfest in the evening.”

Prior to Family Day, students will be celebrating ASMS Spirit Week and hall competitions will be held at one of the school’s most famed event, Goofy Olympics.

Below are schedules for alumni, parents, and current students that include details for Family Day and the events leading up to Saturday:
