Congratulations to ASMS junior Isaac Jones for winning the AATG/ Pädagogisher Austaushdienst Senior Study Trip Award. This is the fourth year in a row that an ASMS student has been a recipient.
“I’m most excited to be with a host family for two weeks,” said Jones. “I’ll get to eat German meals, speak with other students my age, ask questions about life in Germany, and hopefully make longer-lasting friendships along the way.”
Jones applied through an application on the AATG website and was required to write a letter in German to his host family. He also had to obtain a letter of recommendation from ASMS Foreign Language instructor Ms. Hoequist, who he has expressed his appreciation for. After completing the application process, Jones concluded with an interview, speaking only in German, and was finally selected, being the only student from Alabama.
“Taking German at ASMS with Mrs. Hoequist is the reason I was able to get this award,” says Jones. “Frau Hoequist gives us lots of direction and plenty of opportunities to speak, which I tried to take as much as possible. We get lots of practice but the class also continues to move forward and learn new things quickly.”
Good luck and safe travels to Isaac Jones!
