Congratulations to Gillian Shimabukuro (first place), Gabriella Taylor (second place), and Emmeline Nettles (third place) for winning awards in the The University of South Alabama German Department’s ‘German Week’ Essay Competition sponsored by the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, Washington.

“The students submitted essays in the Creative Writing category,” ASMS German and French Instructor Muriel Hoequists says. “They did keep it in German, which for having had only one full year of German is rather amazing.”

“I was very impressed by their creative thinking, each so individually strong and different from the others. Also, since the timing for us fell right into final exam preparations and end-of-term activities, I admire our students’ drive and academic interest to manage to participate at all!”
