Let the Good Times Roll! It’s Mardi Gras Season in Mobile!
Every year, millions of people around the world flock to various locations to celebrate this wonderful tradition. Mardi Gras, French for “Fat Tuesday”, is one of the oldest worldwide celebrations, with its history tracing back thousands of years to pagan spring rites. It is a celebration of abundance and luxury, that evolved into a sort of “final Bang” of enjoying all the finest things in life before the start of the lent season. All of those that have experienced the good times of Mardi Gras know; it’s the party that you never forget!
Mardi Gras has been a staple in America for many years, and it all started right here in Mobile, Alabama. Back then, it was known as New Orleans, which is why there is always some confusion of the original spot, but it has since been renamed into fabulous Mobile. Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne got the ball rolling when he marched through the streets of the city, banging his drums, and officially starting the Mardi Gras tradition that is still alive today.
“Mobile lights up every year around this time,” says Lauryn Black ASMS Senior. “The whole city gets excited for the Festival and it is an exciting opportunity to be a part of that feeling!”
Mardi Gras is something worth experiencing, and the music will only get louder, and the soul will only get stronger! Like they say in Français, “Laissez les bons temps rouler”!
