The ASMS campus is full of art. Most is displayed in the Art Gallery. There is also fairly large folk art collection on display in the library, on loan from the Ann and Palmer Bedsole Collection.
The ASMS Gallery is located off the lobby of the Bedsole Building next to the security office. The gallery is managed by artist and ASMS art instructor Orren Kickliter. Funding for the Gallery is made possible through a grant from the Arts Initiative of the Undesignated Community Endowment of The Community Foundation of South Alabama. The gallery brings tangible academic and artistic content that will add to and support the excellent academic program at ASMS.
Although ASMS does not charge large fees on a daily basis, having a way to access cash is imperative for those last minute surprise instances. These is an ATM machine located in the Student Activity Center in the Coffee House.
The Auditorium is located on the second and third floor of the Administration Building. It is used for weekly assemblies, graduation, special performances, and more. It is also occasionally used as a practice area for the fine arts department. It includes luxurious seating, a balcony seating area, a stage, sound system, and a projector and screen.
Black Box Theater
The Black Box Theater is located on the ASMS West Campus across from the Art Studio. It is most commonly used for theater, musical productions and concerts. It includes a stage, sound system, special sound ceiling panels, videotaping stage, and several other amenities.
Bocce Ball Court
The bocce ball court is located on the Front Lawn towards the boy’s dorm. It is used for recreation during free time.
The Coffee House is located next to the TV Room in the Bedsole Activities Center. Many students spend time in the Coffee House after classes. Students use the Coffee House to host parties and celebrations and also as a quiet place to study. The Coffee House includes many tables and chairs, couches, an ATM machine, a sink, coffee and a coffee maker, cleaning supplies, water cooler, and a microwave.
ASMS has three computer labs: one is located on the second floor of the Ben May Humanities Building, another is located on the second floor of the Science Building, and the third computer lab is located in the Library . The labs are used by students to complete online assignments and assessments. They are also used for internet acces to social networking sites and to surf the web.
Copy machine/printer access in library
In the Library, students have access to two copy machines/printers. They are available for use whenever the Library is open. Students use them to print off material for their class assignments and projects.
The Courtyard is located between the Girl’s Dorm and the Bedsole Building. It is beautifully landscaped and is a wonderful place for students to spend time outside. It is often used by students to spend time with friends, to play music, and to study.
There are many opportunities to exercise on campus. Whenever you have free time, you can head to the fitness room that has several ellipticals, treadmills, and stationary bikes. We also have a weight room that is open at certain times of the day. When the weight room is open, supervision is required. There is a weightlifting club that opens the weight room almost every night of the week for the students on campus. The fitness facilities include a gym, walking track, fitness room, weight room, health room, beach volleyball court, tennis courts, soccer field, and a bowling alley.
The Game Room is located in the Bedsole Student Activities Center. It is a room commonly used for spending time with friends and relaxing. The room includes a pool table, air hockey table, foosball table, ping pong table, flat screen television, board games, card games, and shelving units for students to store their belongings in. Also available for student use are an XBOX Kinect and speakers for music.
The ASMS Fine Arts department is privileged to have access to an array of instruments. You do not have to be in band to borrow one of these instruments, but it is highly encouraged. If any student wants to learn how to play an instrument on their own time but does not have one of their own, they can go talk to the Band Director.
The kayaks are often parked on the on campus parking lot. They are frequently used by the biology department for kayaking field trips. Each kayak fits two people. ASMS also has a couple of canoes that often accompany the kayaks of the field trips.
Laundry facilities for students are located on the first floor of the Administration Building. The washer and dryer services are free. ASMS will not be responsible for clothes left or taken from the laundry room. The housekeeping staff will remove and dispose of all clothes left in the laundry room.
The Mailroom is located next to the Game Room in the Bedsole Student Activities Center. At the beginning of each school year, every student is issued a mail key and mailbox number. These mailboxes are used very frequently to receive mail. Outgoing mail is to be placed in a wooden box located on the front desk. The mail is sent out every day. Teachers also may use students’ mailboxes to return graded assignments and tests.
The Media Room is located next to the Library on the second floor of the Bedsole Building. It is commonly used by teachers for classes and as a meeting place for school clubs. It includes several tables and chairs, a projector, a Smart Board, a white board, a microphone, automatic blinds for the large windows, and a sound system.
Pi Campus Store
The Pi Campus Store is located across from the Game Room in the Bedsole Student Activities Center. The store is run by the Student Government Association. Almost everyday after school someone from SGA has the Pi Store open. The Pi Store sells candy, drinks, and snacks for a reasonable price.
ASMS has two soundproof piano rooms. These are also used as practice rooms for any other instrument or musical pieces. Both room are soundproof and have full size pianos. One is located on the second floor of the Administration Building and the other is on the third floor of the Administration Building.
The picnic tables are located all over the ASMS campus. Some are located on the front lawn and some by the Ben May Humanities Building. They are used by students to spend time with their friends and to study in a quiet outdoor setting.
The Pool is located in between the Bedsole Building and the Science Building. It is used during warm weather for swimming and having pool parties. It has several lounging chairs and a grill on the patio.
The Senior Room is located across from the Game Room in the Bedsole Student Activities Center. It is strictly a room for senior students only. It is a place for seniors to spend time together or study away from the rest of the student body. It includes several tables, chairs, and couches, a flat screen TV, a DVD player, and video gaming systems.
The Study Rooms are located inside the Library on the second floor of the Bedsole Building. They are frequently used by students to study for upcoming tests or exams. The rooms include a whiteboard, large table, and several chairs.
The TV Room is located in the Bedsole Student Activities Center next to the Game Room. It is also called the Dragons Den. It includes a large screen television, several tables and chairs, and a DVD player. It is used by all students as a room to relax and watch TV with friends. It is possible to get the TV room reserved for a large event like a football/basketball/baseball game that is playing on a specific date.
