AIMS Summer Camp

Students can submit an essay for a chance to win a one-week scholarship to the Adventures In Math and Science (AIMS) STEM-based summer camp at the Alabama School of Math and Science in Mobile, Ala.

The top 10 essays will win a one-week scholarship to AIMS. All participants will receive a $25 discount code for one week of AIMS.

Directions and Topic

Your essay should demonstrate efforts in identifying and researching a current STEM trend, technology, or innovation. Explain how this advancement was developed, the problem or challenge it addresses, and the outlook for the future.

Be creative and pick a topic that really interests you. Any connection to STEM disciplines is acceptable. Students should relate the topic to their personal experience in addition to providing evidence from research to support their statements. Participants should pay special attention to the rubric that is included below, as it will be used by judges in scoring the essays.

All essay entries must be submitted by March 1, 2019.

10 Points: Cover page includes –
Essay title (not the same as the essay prompt)
Student’s name
Student’s grade
Name of School

10 Points: Essay is within 1,000 – 1,200 word limit

20 Points: Essay is written in a clear and coherent manner, with a thesis statement guiding the content.

20 Points: Content clearly explains the trend, advancement, or innovation and where it is currently applicable.

20 Points: At least three examples from research are provided to support the thesis statement.

20 Points: Essay clearly outlines the importance of STEM innovations in solving future challenges.
