ASMS would like to thank Lieutenant Governor Will Ainsworth for allocating $1.3 million to our school from the Alabama K-12 Capital Grant Program. We would also like to thank our Alabama legislators for creating the grant program during the 2023 Regular Legislative Session to help schools with capital projects, deferred maintenance, or technology needs.

The $1.3 million allocation to ASMS will be used to begin renovations to the ASMS residence halls in tandem with funds raised on Giving Tuesday this year. ASMS is truly grateful to the lieutenant governor and his staff for believing in the mission of our school and helping to sustain our proven living-learning model.

"This is a transformative grant for ASMS. We will use the funds to make strategic improvements to our students' living spaces. We are appreciative to Lieutenant Governor Ainsworth for granting us the funds to sustain our proven living-learning model and to keep providing a life-changing education to students and families from all 67 counties, " says ASMS President, Dr. John Hoyle.

A team of ASMS staff members collaborated to complete the grant application with write ups, data, and photos to show the school’s need. In addition, a number of Alabama leaders wrote letters of support for ASMS.

The school would like to thank: AL Senator Vivian Figures, AL Representative Adline Clarke, AL Representative Alan Baker, U.S. Congressman Jerry Carl, Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson, Mobile Chamber of Commerce President Bradley Byrne, University of South Alabama President Jo Bonner, ASMS school founder Ann Bedsole, ASMS Foundation Board member Kesshia Davis, and ASMS Foundation Board member Eliska Morgan.

Two support letters from ASMS alumni were also part of the application. ASMS is grateful to Dr. Bob Ashurst (Class of 1994) who is a faculty member and leader in the Auburn University Samuel Ginn College of Engineering along with Mary Ellis Barton (Class of 2023) who is a student at Auburn University.

The $1.3 million in grant funding is sure to benefit ASMS students for generations to come.
