Internships

ASMS believes in the value of experiential learning.

Students often benefit from the opportunity to work in and experience their fields of interest first-hand. Therefore, ASMS offers a summer internship program for rising 11th and 12th grade students.

Participation in the program often involves a minimum of 60 work hours at the internship site, weekly check-ins with ASMS staff, and the delivery of a presentation at the beginning of the next school year. Successful completion of the program will result in the student being awarded .25 CU general elective credit at ASMS.

Students must apply to participate in the program and should have a minimum 3.5 ASMS academic GPA. Application to the program does not guarantee placement in an internship.

ASMS student interns have gained valuable experience at the University of South Alabama (USA) Mitchell Cancer Institute, USA College of Medicine, USA Children’s and Women’s Hospital, USA College of Engineering, USA School of Computing, USA Department of Chemistry, USA Department of Biology, USA Department of Physical Therapy, Volkert, Inc., Computer Technology Solutions, AL.com, and Negative Capability Press.

Students will not be placed in internships supervised by relatives and are not permitted to reside on the ASMS campus during summer internships. Students will be responsible for their own transportation to and from their internship.
