ASMS Students Achieve Best AP Exam Results in School History -- Updated

July 31, 2025 -- 70 ASMS Students Earn AP Scholar Status
70 students at the Alabama School of Mathematics and Science have qualified for AP Scholar status following the 2025 administration of Advanced Placement exams. The College Board recognizes three categories of scholars:
- AP Scholars, who earn scores of 3 or higher on at least 3 exams
- AP Scholars with Honor, who average scores of 3.25 or higher on at least 4 exams
- AP Scholars with Distinction, who average scores of 3.5 or higher across all exams taken and score 3 or higher on at least 5 exams
This year, ASMS had 140 test-takers. Of those, the College Board acknowledged 22 as AP Scholars, 20 as AP Scholars with Honor, and an impressive 28 as Scholars with Distinction, meaning that half of all ASMS students taking AP exams earned AP Scholar status. This is an incredible achievement for a cohort that has already been applauded for securing a 95% pass rate on the 2025 AP exams.
ASMS offers 27 AP courses and exam options, and this year’s students used those offerings to earn 875 hours of college credits, saving them and their families $2,671 per student. We are proud of our Dragons for their academic accomplishments, which reflect years of hard work and study.
July 10, 2025
The College Board recently shared the 2025 AP exam results, and our ASMS students exceeded already high expectations. Their performance on this year's exams is the most successful in the history of the school.
Success on AP exams is important because students earn college credit for scoring well. Earning college credit while in high school allows a student to more quickly progress through their general college education requirements, advance to graduate-level programs sooner, and even save on college tuition.
We are proud of our students' year-long commitment to coursework, studying, and test preparation. Their dedication is seen in the outcomes of the exams. Here are a few notable results:
- Students earned a 95% pass rate, scoring a 3 or higher out of 5 on their AP exams.
- 11 AP test subject areas attained institutional record high scores, including Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, English Language, US History, and more.
- Out of 284 exams administered, one out of every four received a perfect score of 5.
- Students who took the AP Physics 1 exam and the Computer Science A exam performed exceptionally well. In Physics 1, out of 25 test takers, 18 students scored a perfect 5, and the class average is 4.72. In Computer Science A, out of 11 test takers, 8 students scored a perfect 5, and the class average is 4.55. Congratulations to ASMS physics instructor Dr. Jessica Alexander and ASMS computer science instructor Ms. Deborah Gray!
- In addition, students earned a combined total of 875 hours in college credit through their AP exam results which equals an average of $2,671 in college savings per test taker.
Congratulations to our students, their teachers, and our ASMS families on your historic success!
