ASMS Senior Has Research Paper about Mardi Gras Beads Published in the Gulf and Caribbean Research Scientific Journal

Alabama School of Mathematics and Science (ASMS) senior, Thomas Carmichael, recently had a research paper about Mardi Gras beads published in the Gulf and Caribbean Research scientific journal. The title of the paper is Braving the elements: Loss of metals from Mardi Gras beads due to handling and weathering. Carmichael is a senior at ASMS and currently part of the ASMS Research Fellows Program. The paper acknowledgements section describes how Carmichael completed the data analyses and writing of the publication during his senior year at ASMS in 2023—2024. Carmichael co-authored the paper with Dauphin Island Sea Lab Senior Marine Scientist, Dr. Ruth H. Carmichael.
