New Physics and New English Instructors Join ASMS this Fall!

The Alabama School of Math and Science is excited to welcome new faculty members to our Physics and English Departments: Dr. Mohammadreza Fakhraei (Physics) and Mr. Hunter Tallent (English)! We look forward to the knowledge, experience, and enthusiasm they’ll bring to our students. Read on to learn more about their backgrounds and teaching experience!

ASMS Welcomes New Physics Instructor

Dr. Mohammadreza Fakhraei will be joining the ASMS Physics Department. Dr. Fakhraei earned his doctorate in Chemical Engineering from Auburn University. His areas of expertise are computational physics and scientific computing, which involve using simulation and modeling to understand how matter behaves at very small scales and how that governs its large-scale properties. At ASMS, Dr. Fakhraei looks forward to teaching Honors Physics, Introduction to Materials Science, and Computational Materials Science. He says, “What excites me most is the chance to teach students who are genuinely talented and motivated, at a college level, in an environment where teaching is truly the priority. Some of the most rewarding moments in my career have come from watching a difficult concept suddenly click for a student, and I look forward to many of those moments here.”

ASMS Welcomes New English and Speech Instructor

Mr. Hunter Tallent will join the ASMS English Department this fall, teaching courses such as Speech, Journalism, and various English electives. He holds an MA in English and is earning his PhD in Instructional Design from the University of South Alabama. Mr. Tallent’s areas of expertise include medieval literature, rhetoric, and American literature. His professional research includes work in multimodal curriculum integration and generative AI in classroom settings. In Mr. Tallent’s spare time, he enjoys tabletop hobbies such as miniature wargaming and board games, and he plays video games as well. Reflecting on the importance of the Speech course he will teach at ASMS, he says, “Experience in public speaking is a vital skill that will give students an edge in the next step of their educational journey.”

Welcome to the Dragon Lair, Dr. Fakhraei and Mr. Tallent!
