Who We Are

With the restructuring of the ASMS Student Government, the SGA President has laid out a set of goals for the SGA to strive for this year, which are as follows:

  1. Promote a culture of inclusivity and respect: This involves creating a school-wide campaign or program to promote tolerance and understanding among students, and to create a more welcoming and supportive environment for all students.
  2. Encourage academic excellence: The SGA will be working to create a culture of academic excellence at our school.
  3. Promote physical and mental health: Boarding schools can be stressful environments, so it's important to promote the physical and mental health of students. This involves the promotion of wellness programs, providing resources for students struggling with mental health issues, and promoting healthy habits like regular exercise and sleep.
  4. Encourage community involvement: Encouraging students to get involved in their local communities can be a great way to promote a sense of purpose and belonging. This involves organizing volunteer events or service projects or simply encouraging students to get involved in community organizations.
  5. Foster a sense of belonging: It can be tough for students to feel connected and supported in a boarding school environment, so it's important to create opportunities for students to connect with one another and build friendships. This involves organizing social events, promoting student clubs or organizations, and promoting a sense of community within the school.
  6. Promote sustainability: Encouraging students to be more environmentally conscious can be a great way to create a more sustainable school community. This involves implementing recycling programs, encouraging the use of eco-friendly products, and organizing events or campaigns to raise awareness about environmental issues.
  7. Encourage leadership: Developing leadership skills is an important part of the high school experience, and we want to help students develop these skills by promoting leadership training programs and creating opportunities for students to take on leadership roles within the school.
  8. Promote cultural exchange: A boarding school environment provides a unique opportunity for students to learn about and interact with students from different cultures and backgrounds. We want to encourage cultural exchange by organizing events and programs that promote cultural understanding and appreciation, or by creating opportunities for students to interact with one another through activities like language clubs or cultural exchange programs.
  9. Encourage creativity and the arts: Encouraging students to express themselves creatively can be a great way to foster a sense of self-discovery and personal growth. We want to create opportunities for students to engage in creative activities like writing, art, or music and offer extracurricular programs or clubs focused on the arts.
  10. Support student wellness: In addition to promoting physical health, it's important to also support the emotional and mental well-being of students. This will involve promoting resources like counseling services, support groups, and stress management workshops to help students cope with the challenges of boarding school life.

SGA Structure

The SGA is made up of six SGA officers: The President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Parliamentarian, and Sergeant in Arms. These officers are elected at the start of each school year by the student body. SGA representatives are also voted for during the fall term. Each ASMS class votes on 5 representatives for the coming school year.

The SGA is comprised of 4 committees, each lead by an SGA officer: Policy Committee (President), Activities Committee (Vice President), Student Academic Support Committee (Secretary), and the Campus Life Committee (Treasurer). View the SGA structure here.
