Derek Ricafort - President
Initiatives Committee Head
Hey everyone! I'm Derek Ricafort, and I'm honored to serve as your SGA President! This year, I’m focusing on boosting student engagement and expanding local STEM outreach. I plan to launch Dragon Talks—a TEDx‑style series where students share creative ideas—and host STEM workshops for local schools and community centers.
Beyond SGA, I serve as Beta Club President, working to strengthen community involvement in Mobile; President of the Asian American Association, promoting Asian‑American awareness; and a Peer Advisor for DaVinci Hall, supporting residents in our community. In my free time, I also love playing volleyball, cooking Filipino food, and dancing to Teach Me How to Dougie!

YangHong Chi - Vice President

My name is Yanghong Chi and I am your SGA Vice President for the 2025-2026 year! I’m a senior from Mobile County. I was born in Hongkong and lived in Beijing and Xi An the most of my life. In my free time I like to play basketball, eat, yap, sing, and doom scroll. I love math, physics, and chemistry. Feel free to find me and yap anytime, I am usually in the basketball gym, the library, the cafe, or my room! I look forward to making this year a blast and making memories with amazing people!
Kayla Ho - Treasurer

Hiii!! I’m Kayla Ho and I am serving as your 25-26 SGA treasurer!! I would consider myself a pretty active student at ASMS and I genuinely love to be involved with this wonderful community. I enjoy pickleball, volleyball, and yapping! Im excited to see what this year SGA will bring, and hopefully it’ll be even better than last!

Hello ASMS! My name is Jacob Kim and I’m honored serve as your SGA Secretary for 2025-2026 school year! I’m a senior from Mobile County but I spent my childhood in Michigan. In my free time, you’ll usually find me playing basketball, eating KBBQ chicken, reading, or napping. I also enjoy learning about Alzheimer’s disease, Physics, and AI. Looking forward to making this year the best one yet!
Liana Jayasena - Parliamentarian

Hi! My name is Liana Jayasena. I am a senior from Mobile County. I am honored to serve as this year’s Head of Assembly Committee!!! I am so excited to play my part in making assembly a welcoming and exciting environment where all students can gather to find opportunity, share experiences, and build our community. As Parliamentarian, I hope to promote inclusivity, allowing the entire student body to feel welcomed in our community. I am so excited to put my all into making this the best year for everyone!

Hello ASMS! My name is Jesus Flores, and I'm a senior from Kinston, Alabama. I am proud to serve my community as an SGA representative for this year. Additionally, I am serving in the School Relations Committee and Initiatives Committee. I love playing basketball with the boys, eating with friends, and reading my Holy Bible. In the future, I would love to pursue mechanical engineering and hopefully visit my brother on the East Coast. We ball!

Hey this is Eshal Syed! I was born and raised in California for 15 years. Some things I like to do is listen to music, make coffee, go on walks on the beach, and enjoy the company of my friends. In the future I want to purse business management and strategic leadership. I’m a Senior at ASMS and it's my second year in SGA. I am in your spirit and initiatives committee and hope to make the best out of it! I want everyone at ASMS to feel like family and know their opinions matter. If you ever have any questions or would like to talk, I'm always here. I hope we can all make this year remarkable and enjoy it to the fullest.

Hello, my name is Ryan Teague, and I am a senior class representative serving on the Club Life and Initiatives Committees. I am super excited to be a part of the SGA this year, and I am also looking forward to all of the new experiences that come with it! Outside of academics, I love sewing, crocheting, knitting, and any other crafts I can get my hands on. I also really like reading classic novels, and my favorite so far has been Persuasion by Jane Austen.

Hey guys! My name is Razariah Stokes and I am a returning junior. I live in Elmore County, but I am originally from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I love playing volleyball, hanging out with friends, and shopping! My favorite subject is history and I love watching rom-coms in my spare time. I am so excited to be a junior representative this year and help out with School Spirit Committee! I hope we all have a wonderful year!

Hello, I’m Professor Derek Barry, I have been a proud faculty member of the History department at the Alabama School of Math and Science since 2005, and I have worked as an SGA Advisor since 2011. I enjoy the vibrant culture we’ve built here at ASMS, and I’m excited to work with our amazing students this year!
Katrina Millender - SGA Advisor
Supervises the SGA Vice President, Secretary, and Parliamentarian
Hello! I’m Ms. Millender, and I’ve been proud to call ASMS home since early 2020. My primary role at the school is serving as a Counselor, but I also wear several other hats, including:
- Advisor for the Student Government Association for the Student Government Association
- Advisor for the Black Student Union
- Advisor for the Sophomore Class
- Mentor for the Jo Bonner Leadership Academy
