Outstanding Alumna Sarah Nealy (Class of 2017) Speaks to Current Students at Assembly
Sarah Nealy is an outstanding ASMS alumna from one of our more recent graduating classes. Prior to attending ASMS, Sarah grew up on a farm in Fairhope, Alabama. Since graduating from ASMS in 2017 with a distinction in biology, she has published a research paper, studied abroad, and been selected for the prestigious Goldwater scholarship.
Dr. John de la Parra - Outstanding Alumnus, Plant Scientist, and Innovator
Ethnobotanist, plant chemist, and lecturer, Dr. John de la Parra is one of the many innovators and scholars that ASMS is proud to call an alumnus. A graduate of ‘98, Dr. de la Parra has held positions at various institutions that some of our current students aim to attend.
ASMS Hosts Ribbon Cutting to Celebrate Grand Opening of a Remote Learning Center and Makerspace
The campus is being transformed at the Alabama School of Mathematics and Science. A facility that began as a school storage building has been renovated to become a Remote Learning Center and Makerspace – one of the only innovation spaces on a school campus in the state of Alabama.

ASMS Students Lead Campus Beautification Mural Project
With the help of a professional artist, Kathleen Kirk Stoves, ASMS students were able to channel their school pride into a physical embodiment of this place we call home. They created a mural by the basketball courts! The mural features a signature ASMS dragon center stage with a background comprised of a flurry of mathematical equations.
ASMS RECEIVES STATE FUNDING FOR NEW SCIENCE RESEARCH CENTER
Building a state-of-the-art science research center is at the heart of the Alabama School of Mathematics and Science’s (ASMS) five-year strategic plan. The school has received a $6.2 million appropriation from the state of Alabama to build the facility within the next three to five years.
