ASMS E-sports Team Celebrates Successful Start
Our ASMS E-sports team members were highlighted by USA Today for their placement in their respective games during the regular seasons! E-sports team member Marcus Hannah went on to win the Central Region NBA 2k23 Championship 2-0. Overall, the team had 14 different students representing make it to the playoffs this season.
ASMS Hackathon Featured by Mayor of Mobile
ASMS Hackathon recently took place in Mobile providing a unique learning experience for area 9th-12th graders. Participants collaborated with peers and employed critical, innovative thinking skills to successfully develop a solution to a chosen problem.
ASMS Biology Instructor Wins WKRG Golden Apple Award
Dr. Natalie Ortell is the recipient of WKRG News 5’s Golden Apple Award which they describe as “honor[ing] local teachers who are making a difference in the classroom.” Over a dozen ASMS students nominated Dr. Ortell for the award.

ASMS Student, Instructor, and Parent Present at Esteemed Physics Conference
While you might not expect to see a high school make a strong showing at a college-level research conference, the Alabama School of Mathematics and Science (ASMS) did just that at the 89th Annual Meeting of the Southeastern Section of the American Physical Society. Commonly referred to as SESAPS, this prestigious conference highlights physics-related research from undergraduate students, graduate students, and college professors. Hosted on the Ole Miss campus this year, it also featured research from several ASMS community members: a student, a teacher, and a parent.
