Three ASMS Students Named Candidates for Prestigious US Presidential Scholars Program
"The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964, by executive order of the President, to recognize and honor some of our nation's most distinguished graduating high school seniors. In 1979, the program was extended to recognize students who demonstrate exceptional talent in the visual, creative, and performing arts."
Six ASMS Seniors Named National Merit Finalists
Six seniors in the Alabama School of Mathematics and Science (ASMS) Class of 2024 have been named National Merit Finalists by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). These students are in the top 1% of high school seniors in the nation.
ASMS Senior Has Research Paper about Mardi Gras Beads Published in the Gulf and Caribbean Research Scientific Journal
ASMS senior, Thomas Carmichael, recently had a research paper about Mardi Gras beads published in the Gulf and Caribbean Research scientific journal. The title of the paper is Braving the elements: Loss of metals from Mardi Gras beads due to handling and weathering. Carmichael is an ASMS senior and part of the ASMS Research Fellows Program.
ASMS President's List and Dean’s List Students Named for Winter 23-24 Term
Students on the President's List for winter 23-24 earned a Winter Term academic GPA of 4.0. Students on the Dean's List for winter 23-24 earned a Winter Term academic GPA of 3.99-3.7. Congratulations to these students!

ASMS Alumna Mandy Barefoot (Class of 2004) Speaks with ASMS Research Fellows Students and Mentors a Student Research Project
On Tuesday, January 9th, ASMS alum Mandy Barefoot (Class of 2004) led a Lunch and Learn for ASMS students to share her experience working in sport management. She also spoke to the ASMS Research Fellows Program classes while on campus. She is currently working on her PhD in Kinesiology and Sport Management at Louisiana State University.
